Invite Us to Your Event

With the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution upon us, we are especially committed to bringing history to the next generation. We offer interactive "Discovery Trunk" sessions featuring hands-on uniform talks and age-appropriate Q&A. Our goal is to bring history off the page for students of all ages and create tangible connections to Virginia’s Revolutionary legacy.

We are eager to hear from educators—especially in our public school systems—about how we can support your curriculum.

  • Living History

The Experience: A static, immersive display of 18th-century camp life. We provide detailed demonstrations of period equipment and domestic crafts (such as sewing, cooking, and laundry) tailored for museums and historical parks.

The Goal: To provide a "window into the past" where visitors can engage one-on-one with the soldiers and civilians of the Revolution.

  • Tactical Reenacting

The Experience: High-impact, full-scale battle demonstrations and precision drill maneuvers. Our military programming includes regulated black powder safety displays and tactical explanations of 1770s warfare.

The Goal: To demonstrate the discipline, sound, and movement of the Continental Army under fire.

  • School Programs

The Experience: Interactive "Discovery Trunk" sessions featuring hands-on uniform talks and age-appropriate Q&A. We bring history off the page for students of all ages.

The Goal: To inspire the next generation through tangible connections to Virginia’s Revolutionary legacy.

How We Work

As a volunteer organization, our members participate because they love history and enjoy the camaraderie of the field. We prioritize events that offer high historical value and engaging atmospheres. To ensure a successful event and a strong turnout from our members, we encourage you to share your goals with us so we can see if our regiment is the right fit for your vision.

Headquarters & Service Area

While the 1st Virginia draws dedicated members from across the United States, our primary operations and leadership are centered in the Alexandria, Virginia area.

You can frequently find our regiment providing living history demonstrations at George Washington’s Mount Vernon and other premier historic sites throughout the Potomac region. As a mobile unit, we bring the 18th century to life at battlefields, museums, and educational centers across the East Coast.

Mailing Address & Inquiries Because we are a field-active regiment, we do not maintain a public office. For all official correspondence, strategic partnership inquiries, or recruitment questions, please contact us via our contact form.

Logistics

  • As a non-profit educational group, we appreciate honorariums to cover travel and black powder costs, but we work with schools on a case-by-case basis.

  • We are fully insured for black powder demonstrations and follow strict safety protocols at all times.

  • For full camp displays, we typically require a 20x20 grass area and access to water.

The 1st Virginia Regiment is a non-profit organization. All military demonstrations are conducted by safety-certified members under strict protocols and in accordance with local and site-specific regulations.
